Fáilte Ireland invites applications for the position of Officer, Tourism Careers.
Job Purpose:
A core priority for Fáilte Ireland is on driving the sustainable development of tourism. Central to this is a sector which provides excellent careers to staff so that it can attract talent and skills to meet current and future industry needs. As part of this work, Fáilte Ireland is seeking to recruit an energetic Tourism Careers Officer with expertise in delivering high impact initiatives and building strong and productive relationships.
This is a result focused role, requiring a professional with expertise in project management and delivery, excellent relationship management and communication skills. This role is focused on delivering initiatives to:
- Support the tourism industry to become one of the most enjoyable and rewarding sectors to work in.
- Implement initiatives that address recruitment and retention challenges in industry.
- Supporting the Manager to deliver the Tourism Careers Operational Plan and support the industry as required.
- Drive skills development across the industry to meet current and future skills needs.
Job Description:
Supporting the tourism sector to attract and retain talent.
- Project manage and deliver assigned projects to support the implementation of strategies to meet the short- and long-term labour supply challenges of the sector. This will include initiatives as part of the Employer Excellence Programme and other Tourism Careers programmes, as well as event planning, supporting capability building, delivering insights and sharing best practice.
- Proactively develop data and insights on recruitment and retention challenges, identifying the main opportunities and collaborating with key stakeholders and internal and external partners to harness them.
- Support the industry to work together to reposition careers in the sector as appealing and rewarding.
- Positively positioning Tourism as a career
- Develop and support initiatives that showcase the breadth of career opportunities in the sector for a range of platforms targeted at both jobseekers and students.
- Identify and deliver ways to positively profile tourism as a career choice amongst target audiences.
- Contribute to the development of marketing and PR initiatives to elevate careers and employment in tourism.
Driving Skills Development
- Support in the development and delivery of content and initiatives to help build HR skills within tourism businesses.
Industry and Stakeholder Management
- Central to this role will be developing strong and productive stakeholder relationships.
- Develop influential relationships with key stakeholders such as tourism education providers, tourism businesses, sectoral bodies and other agencies.
- Develop and maintain excellent internal and external stakeholder relationships to achieve the organisation’s objectives.
- Identify and build relationships with businesses in the industry which are leading the way in their people practices, from building positive workplace cultures and employee loyalty to devising innovative and competitive recruitment techniques and driving a professional approach to skills development.
- Represent Fáilte Ireland on agreed collaborative platforms.
Communication
- Develop written briefs and presentation material to a high standard for multiple audiences.
- Developing, designing, and delivering presentations to varying group sizes.
- Support the development of content for use in promotional material.
Operational
- Embed and maintain high standards in project planning to support delivery of objectives.
- Plan and deliver impactful industry events.
- Effectively manage own time.
- Effectively manage any team members reporting into the role.
- Effectively manage assigned budget and associated processes.
- Support the broader team to deliver operational plan.
- Ensure all activities are delivered on time and on budget.
- Write requests for tender as and when required.
- Ensure that any procurement of work from a third party is implemented in line with Fáilte Ireland procurement policy.
- Carry out all other duties as required and participate as a full member of the Tourism Carers Team by supporting different work projects from time to time.
This role requires travel, with attendance at a number of national and regional locations and sites on an annual basis.
The flexibility to travel domestically, and on occasion internationally is an element of this role.

In order to be eligible to apply for this role you must have / demonstrate in your application form the following:
- Minimum three years’ experience in a relevant role
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Experience in project management and planning
- Experience in stakeholder management
- Experience in presenting to internal / external stakeholders
Qualifications/Mandatory Training
- A professional qualification (minimum Level 6 under the QQI Framework) in a related discipline is essential.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in people management
- Working knowledge of the tourism landscape in Ireland
- Experience in developing recruitment and retention initiatives
- Experience in marketing / public relations
- Experience in managing agencies and suppliers
- Experience with working with industry partners or a tourism business
